General Information and Academic Administration

I Placed in Kindergarten level for practice teaching. In St. Paul University Surigao, there are two level before grade 1 in elementary. First is pre-K called Nursery for pupils age <5 years old.  And second is K or Kindergarten after pre-K level. There is one classroom for Kindergarten here, and two session class in morning and afternoon. The duration of learning is same for every session, it is three and thirty minutes. In the morning start from 8.00 AM until  11.30 AM, while in afternoon start from 1.00 PM until 4.30 PM.

  • Teaching methods of the teacher in the classroom

The teacher using multi method in  teaching. For kids, teacher show more love in some expression like kissing and hugging. The teacher gives motivation for the pupils (I call the students in kindergarten as pupils). For all kids, the teacher use conditioning especially in habituate the Paulinian values.

 

The class start with opening activities, first the pupils will pray and after that they listen to “The Paulinian Hymn”. After that they continue to sing national anthem of Philippines and the swear of Filipino or Philippines National Citizen. And opening activities will end with body movement or dancing according to the song.

 

In Kindergarten class, there are different kids in their emotional and academic ability. The teacher gives different attention for different needs of kids. For example for some kids who can not learn together with his/her another classmate, after the class finish the teacher will teach him/her individually.

  • Learning materials and innovation

Learning material in kindergarten class is from subject book, and dominant from audio visual. The pupils need more demonstration and visual for what the teacher teach to them. In kindergarten, the most important lesson not only about academic or cognitive skill but also about stimulation for their development because the pupils still in their basic of studying. The teacher mostly use projector and speaker and show a lot of audio visual media to the pupils.

  • Sources of learning and technology used by the teachers

The source of learning is book and audio  visual. During my observation, the technology used by the teacher is in almost all of the learning process using audio visual media. In Kindergarten class, the pupils need to be stimulated their motoric, social, and language skill, so the teacher more focus using direct stimulation in learning process.

  • Authentic assessment used by the teachers

In kindergarten, the teacher will describe all of development aspect of every pupil to show the skill or ability after the pupils learn some lesson of any subject. the result of assess shown by qualitative description.
