Teaching Practice

  • Procedures of teaching

My practice teaching scheduled in four week, in every week has different program. The schedule are:

  • 1st week (Jan. 17th - Jan. 18th 2019)

Observing the class

First week I observed the Kindergarten class and learning process in Kindergarten. In two days I meet with all of the pupils in both of session, morning and afternoon.

  • 2nd week (Jan. 21st - Jan. 25th 2019)

Assist teaching

In second week, I have to be assistant for my cooperating teacher. In second week is "University Celebration Week", so all of the student was busy for preparing they performance. The pupils in Kindergarten also participate in this celebration. The pupils perform a dance, so in this week they practice dancing for preparing.

I assist my teacher (cooperating teacher) to arrange the pupils when they was practicing. The main program of celebration week held in Jan. 23rd - Jan. 25th, but we need to practice and prepare for the best perform in a whole week.

  • 3rd week (Jan. 28th - Feb. 1st 2019)

Actual teaching (using own format lesson plan)

In this week I have to be a real teacher. Third week, I would be teaching on Monday and Tuesday because the subject Science is on Monday  and Math is on Tuesday. This week I use lesson plan in my own format (Indonesian Kindergarten format for lesson plan). Basically, the contain of lesson plan are same but the format is different.

  • 4th week (Jan. 4th - Feb. 8th 2019)

Actual teaching (using OBE format lesson plan)

Forth week, I use OBE (Outcomes Basic-Education) Format and Paulinian format that used in the school. I make the simple lesson plan, so I did not write the specific process in the lesson plan. I only write the main point of my plan in teaching.

  • Time management and organizing activities

The pupils learn for three hours and thirty minutes in one session, and only two hours to learn the main topic in a day.  The pupils learn different subject everyday. I only teach on Monday and Tuesday, two session a day. In a day I teach four hours and in a week I get eight hours.

The class start with opening activities, like praying, singing National Anthem, and body movement or dancing. The opening process lead by my cooperating teacher, while me only assist my teacher. After the opening activities done, I start my lesson about the main topic of the day appropriate with the lesson plan.

  • Problem-solving

The situation mostly happened is the pupils argue one another, I think it is normal for Kinder pupils because they still in explore step process and growing up. Some time they "report" to me about their friend had fight them, and just for a few moment they play together again. Honestly it was funny for me.

When they was in arguing, I asked them about "what God said and what God wanted from us as God's children?" and then I asked them to be kind to one another, forgive their friend and hug their friend and finally they play together again. Th kids are very easy to be upset and also easy to change their mood. The key is our expression that show our love to them.

  • Classroom management

The strategy I use to manage the classroom is using dance as body movement. I often confused to manage the pupils because sometime they only want to move and move. They run, jump and catch their friends. But I helped by my cooperating Teacher, she is very kind. She usually help me in manage the pupils in the classroom, she told me that  I have to be strict to the pupils but I think I still weak in classroom management.
