  • Academic Support System

In this report i focus only for grade school because i placed in the Kinder which is part of grade school.

From the information that I got, the academic support system in St. Paul University Surigao use IT to improve the skill of students for the sources of learning and also the process of learning. In the process, teachers focus to assess the students need in learning. Teacher will adjust the method in teaching based on the students need, so students would get the optimal learning to improve their skill.

The school also has partnership with local public schools and barangays. The school also adopt Summer school or “summer bridge programs” to help students catch up (if they fell behind during the previous year) or prepare for the next grade (if there are concerns they might struggle academically or drop out of high school).

The school is using digital and online learning applications and gadgets, such as Ipad for their textbooks and Quipper (education technology company that provides e-Learning, coaching, tutoring, and assessment services for K-12), to help students grasp difficult concepts, or teachers may use course-management programs that allow them to archive course materials and communicate with students.

In school, the strategy of having advisers is use to build stronger and more understanding relationships between teachers and students. The general idea is that students will be better served and more effectively taught if teachers know students well and understand their distinct learning needs, interests, and aspirations.

Since the school adopts the Outcomes-Based Education Curriculum, extended opportunities are given to the pupils. The support may be provided during regular classes, during the school day, or after regular school hours. Support that focuses on the enhancement of the students skills that they still lack on.

  • Teaching system

The teaching system used in this school is multi method to improve students ability and skill. The method used based on students needs. Such as in grade school especially in kinder, teacher use physical movement like dancing and singing while studying. The students in the Kinder more active because they are in their active age to explore the environment, that why the students need more movement like playing, running, jumping and so on. The teacher also use stimulation for students development, such as in social emotional development teacher will direct the students to build relation with their friends.

The most important thing in this school is religious values, one of the obligate is praying before and after studying and in the particular time. All of the student will pray before they start studying.

Every morning, the student have to attend the flag ceremony. This is one of way to make strong the students nationalism.

  • Materials and other learning sources

The materials used in the learning process dominantly from the IT such as projector, speakers and also computer and using multimedia sources for easily understand the lesson.

Start In grade 3, students allowed to use their gadgets for textbook and access video and another learning sources.

For the practicum in some subject, students could practice in the laboratory. The school has a day called activities day in Wednesday. Student will have physical activities outdoor such as sport, marching, and another activities. So in this activities, the learning sources use environment inside the school area.

  • Measurement and evaluation system

For learning evaluation, there are four quarters in a year (one level/grade). For every quarter, the students will evaluated to measure the lesson that they have learnt in whole one quarter.

The standard uses to measure the students skill is Paulinian Core Values 5 C’s. The Values has different standard in every level.
